Call for Participants
We are currently inviting participants for the study: “Understanding the workplace experiences of healthcare providers of transgender, Two-Spirit, and non-binary youth in British Columbia“.

Gender-affirming care providers are facing growing challenges. The current social and political climate has led to legal restrictions on practice, workplace harassment, and health misinformation. Providers who work with youth face even more difficulty when families are unsupportive. We are doing a research study to understand how they respond to these challenges and sustain their practice.
Who can participate?
Credentialed gender-affirming care providers working with trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary youth up to 18 years in British Columbia.
How can you participate?
You can join the study as either a research participant or a member of the Community Advisory Board.
- Research participants will be invited to share their experiences in a one-on-one interview. The interviews can be in person or virtually via Zoom. In-person interviews will be arranged at UBC, the BCCDC, or a private work-related location of your choice within Metro Vancouver (for example, your work office). Interviews on Zoom are available for those who prefer them and those outside the Metro Vancouver area. The interview is expected to last about 60 minutes. Interviewees will receive a $50 honorarium.
- Community Advisory Board members will support the research project and receive $50/hour for their time. We estimate a total of 12 hours of work between meetings and independent work, between May 2026 and August 2027. The Community Advisory Board positions are intended for trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary healthcare providers. There are seats specifically reserved for Indigenous Two-Spirit providers.
What will we do with the data?
The interview data will be analyzed in two different ways. All interviews will be analyzed using traditional qualitative research methods. In addition, we intend to use an arts-based approach, using poetry, to understand the findings from a different perspective. Participants can decide whether to consent to the inclusion of their interview data in the second analysis.
How will my information be kept safe?
The registration survey and interview data will be password-protected, encrypted, and stored in secure servers at UBC or BCCDC. Only the Principal Investigator and the lead PhD trainee researcher will have access to the data. The registration survey includes more details on data security, and we will provide additional information when extending interview invitations.
