Internet-based testing
Our team’s research related to GetCheckedOnline, BC’s digital STBBI testing program.
We have an active program of research centred on BC’s digital testing program, GetCheckedOnline which was developed by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and Public Health Lab in partnership with Regional Health Authorities.
The service allows users to get tested without seeing a health care provider. The steps users go through are to request a lab form online, go to a local lab to get tested for STBBIs (HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis C) and get results online (if negative) or by phone.
We have embedded research at all phases of implementation, from the design and development phase (2009-2013) to the implementation and scale-up (2014 – today). This research is done in close partnership with the BCCDC Online Sexual Health Services program, which operates the service.
We have also collaborated with partners in Ontario, at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the community organization ACT, to assess the feasibility of implementing a model like GetCheckedOnline in Ontario for 2SGBTQ+ men.
